WIP Wednesday (May ‘25)
I am but a human and when I see cute yarn I must acquire it, contrary to my commitment earlier this year to only use what was in my stash… I have been doing fairly well with finishing my existing projects but I really ought to make more progress to justify how many more projects I cast on than finish… anyway… here goes for this month…
Knitting
Luna Tee
A tale as old as time – I became transfixed by this Isager Tweed yarn in moss and of course had to have it – but what to knit with it??? I decided on the Luna tee as I wanted a summery top which wasn’t a vest top (for I have. so many already). My main concern is that it is a little scratchy for something I’ll wear quite close to my skin, plus, I am struggling awfully with the 2x2 Italian tubular cast-on with a jogless join in the round. It is so damn fiddly to me that I have had to rip it out four times and start again already, though part of the problem is the fact that I don’t have a short enough circular needle for the neckhole, so I’ve been wrangling this new technique on double-pointed needles and magic loop, which doesn’t make it any easier. But… isn’t the swatch cute???
Sophie Hood
I became transfixed yet again when I visited Laniato in Vienna and saw their range of Lana Grossa yarns… I really liked Mosaico and Torto, but after three very careful visits I ended up thoughtfully, not impulsively,* picking three balls of Maglia to make the infamous PetiteKnit Sophie Hood for when (I fear) the weather turns. Unfortunately they didn’t have the exact colour I wanted (06; I had to settle for 04 which is fairly similar) but it’s still very cute. Actually, though, this isn’t really a WIP, because I have only done a gauge swatch with a ball/some strands of We Are Knitters mohair leftover from another project ages ago, because Maglia is a lighter yarn weight than the Sophie Hood calls for. So I don’t plan on starting this project for a while – until it gets cold, I hope.
*The yarn is 92% cotton and 8% polyester; normally I don’t like cotton yarns and I try to avoid plastic-based yarns, but I folded here, okay.
